Styles That Might Not Catch On

The things a model has to do to earn a paycheck.  Certified Vera fave Andrei Dobrin spent the better part of last summer modeling for Korean brands, and one of the outfits they put him in was this: a get-up that raises the question, "Huh?"

An Angel Named Andrei

From the same shoot that produced photo of Andrei Dobrin in the singularly odd ensemble featured here a few days ago, these pictures, from the luxury German fashion magazine Tush, feature equally unwearable clothes, or lack thereof, but they do nothing to take away from that face.

All Andrei, All The Time?

Does it seem as if this blog is about to become a tribute site to 16-year-old Romanian model Andrei Dobrin?  Don't worry, that's not about to happen, but since young Andrei was chosen by Models.com as their Model of the Week, and because I admire him so,  I felt an urge to post him again, even though he was the subject of my last post. Quite a beauty is our Andrei, even though I often wish I could take him out and feed him a few hamburgers.  I suspect that he's the type who can eat anything and never gain weight, but I like him too much to hold that against him.

Just a note to my regular readers, if in fact I still have any of those, by way of explaination for my somewhat sporadic posting schedule:  I am currently rehearsing a musical in which I have a rather large role, and my computer time is limited. On top of that, I have been a bit obsessed with the upcoming Americanshit storm election, and have found myself spending a lot of the time I usually spend prowling the Internet for hot guysreading every political site I can find.  This, too, will pass, but until that time, please bear with me.  I suspect that my current schedule will be in full effect until around Christmas

It's been a while since lovely Ukrainian model, equilibrist, and Godling  Sergey (aka Sergio) Brisyuk has appeared on these pages, and a shame, too, because he's one of my top three favorites at the moment.  Can you guess the other two?

One-Handed Reading

If you are looking for something to read that is a good, hot time, I am going to recommend a series of erotic novels byZack (aka Roger Kean and Oliver Frey) called The Boys of Imperial Rome.  Currently, the series consists of three volumes:Deadly Circus of Desire,The Satyr of Capri, and Wrath of Seth.  Set in 108 AD, these novels are a highly readable mix of history, mystery, political intrigue, and guy on guy action.  It's as if The Hardy Boystime-traveled to ancient Rome, and were doing each other, minus the incest.  The books remind me of the illustrated chapter books of my childhood, with the text, which stands on its own, supplemented by dozens of illustrations. It just happens that the gorgeous, sexy illustrations by the great Oliver Frey are mostly of young men having sex with each other. Is this porn? Yeah, I suppose it is, but it's really fun porn, and Roger Kean does a terrific job hanging the erotic elements on an engaging story, with likable protagonists, hiss-able villains,  and well-researched history. Me likey.

Cheer Up

It has been two days after the US election, and 80% of the people I know are still walking around in a stupor, occasionally bursting into tears, so I thought, as a way to cheer folks up, I'd remind them that on the other side of the world this guy is still walking around looking like that.

I can't even begin to explain my powerful attraction to Twan Van Der Togt,  a college student/model from Holland, but I'm guessing that the combination of gap-toothed smile, freckles, and angel eyes might have something to do with it. Twan has only been modelling for a short time, and there's not much out there on him at the moment, but to quote Spencer Tracy, "What's there is cherse."

The Instagramiest Post Of The Year

In lieu of a real post- you know, the type of post that requires thought and effort-  because I am still about a week and a half away from giving any serious attention to this blog, Here's just a small sampling of some of the stuff I encountered on Instagram today. Yes, I'm being that lazy. Special appearances by Sean O'Donnell, and aspiring actor/musician Will Meyers.

If you have any doubts that 17-year old U.K. born model Brian Whittaker has a perfect torso, I can't even talk to you.

Here's something that you've probably never heard of: In 1961 a film was released called Tintin et le Mystère de La Toison d'or (Tintin and the Mystery of the Golden Fleece) starring 18-year-old neophyte actor Jean-Pierre Talbot as the beloved character TintinTalbot looked exactly like the Tintin of the comics, but at the same time he was almost distractingly hunky.  Not that I'm complaining.  He starred in a second Tintin film in 1964, and that was it for his acting career. He became a teacher, no doubt a distractingly hunky teacher.

Happy Returns (Part 1)

It seems to many, your host included, that the Annus horribilis known as 2016has done nothing but take things away from us, but it turns out that the year has not been a complete wash, and among the bright spots have been a few things, thought to be long gone, that have risen from the grave like a cat in a Stephen King novel. Like that zombie cat, resurrected things are seldom exactly the same as they
were before their initial demise.  On the other hand...

I probably don't need to tell the readers of this blog that between 1996 and 2008 XY was the magazine for gay teen boys and (as is constantly pointed out by those who consider it a dirty little secret) those who love them. Despite its exemplary newsstand sales, various market forces, including advertiser's belief that gay teens aren't a real demographic, along with the bizarre notion that it is OK to be a gay teen as long as you don't have any sexual desires, forced it out of business, and its assets were ignominiously liquidated.  A few years ago the original editorial team took a shot on a new magazine called B, which was an exact replica of XY, but that lasted only three issues.

A few months ago I was shocked to learn that XY is back, and even more shocked to receive a letter offering me a free subscription in lieu of the issues of B that I paid for but never received. The magazine arrived just a few days later.

So, here's the thing: The new XY is almost exactly the same as the old XY. Perhaps the boys are slightly less twinky. There are definitely more tattoos on display. Other than that though, it is still exactly the same magazine that you remember. Now, the question is, do print magazines still have relevance in 2017 and beyond? That remains to be seen, but I hope so.

XY 50 is available here, and at newsstands (if you can find one) everywhere.

Below are a few classic XY covers.

Randy Harrison, out  star of Queer as Folk (US) and one of the few celebrity cover stars.

Nick Carter's cover and the Backstreet Boys interview within was quite a surprise.
Cover by Toby Bluth, Disney illustrator and gay erotic artist of the 1970s.

And here are a few images from the notorious, once-forbidden Colton "I'm totally not gay, don't even suggest it or I'll sue, oh wait I totally am" Haynes issue.

And this is probably my all-time favorite XY image.

Not A Total Loss

I shouldn't come as a total surprise to learn that 2016 has not been my favorite year ever, but even the worst years have their highlights. For instance, this was the year that I first laid eyes on this gorgeous creature.  It doesn't get much better than that.

Even though I first came upon Sergey Brisuk in the Fall of 2014, 2016 was they year that cemented him in my heart. Lately he has been spending a lot of time in the gym "making progress" on what I can only think of as an already perfect body. Just don't overdo it, my dear.
